What to Wear for Your Sunflower Photos
The most common question I get asked as a family photographer is “What should we wear for our photo shoot?”
Since I have Sunflower Mini Sessions coming up soon, let’s answer that question specifically for a session in a field of sunflowers. These tips can apply to any large field of flowers, or even just a field of green!
Neutrals are always safe!
Neutral colours in any field of bright colours is a great way to still coordinate, yet let the natural environment stand out. Soft browns, creams, whites or soft yellow always look great in a sunflower field!
Neutral colours look great in patterns or solid!
SHADES OF BLUE
Yellow and blue are complimentary colours, so blue will always look great against the yellow sunflowers! It will also coordinate well with the green stalks.
Demin or blue dress or shirts - fairy wings optional :)
Do not feel your family members have to match! Actually, we prefer they don’t! Different shades of blue are perfect!
PATTERNS AND PRINTS, OH MY!
It is perfectly okay to mix prints and patterns. in fact, it is ENCOURAGED!
Pro Tip - choose the busiest outfit first and pull colours from it for everyone else. For example, if you have a plaid shirt for Dad, pull solid colours or more subtle patterns in the same colour scheme for siblings or mom.
COLOUR AND TEXTURE
Do not be afraid to be bold with colours, textures and dress it up! Even though you are on in a dusty field, you can still dress up and wear the heels :) Just bring extra shoes for walking or mud!
ACCESSORIZE!!!
HATS, SCARVES, JACKETS YOU CAN REMOVE - these are all easy ways to change up a look quickly for more variety.
As well, think of the environment.
It will be dusty and maybe muddy walking through the fields. Rubber books are SUPER cute in photos (on adults and kids!).
Jackets in case it cools down in the evening or to add another look.
Bring along a blanket for sitting in the sunflower fields. (I usually have one too)
I cannot wait to meet you at the Sunflower Fields! Sessions take place at Davis Farm in Caledon. Even if you are not getting portraits taken by me, it is a wonderful place to visit in the summer to walk the fields of sunflowers and take your own photos!
