So many couples ask me WHY should we do an engagement session? What's the point? Especially if you are a private couple who won't be sharing photos of yourselves all over social media. Well, let me tell you some reasons why I love when couples choose to do an engagement session and maybe one of them will relate to you!
1. IT IS PART OF YOUR LOVE STORY
Some couples are engaged for only weeks, while others are engaged for years. No matter how long or short, that time is still an important part of your story so why not document how you are, right now, before getting married. Those months leading up to your wedding are usually full of planning and vendors and tastings and parties that many will get wrapped up in the planning and not get to spend as much time just being together. And that is what an engagement session should be - time together, hanging out, just being yourselves.
2. GETTING TO KNOW YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Yes, this is important! As your wedding photographer I love engagement sessions because it gives us time to hang out and get to know each other - so that by the time your wedding comes along, we are comfortable with one another and will both feel more relaxed on your big day! I want my couples to be more than clients and most become FRIENDS! Are you someone who feels awkward in front of the camera? Then your engagement session is a great time to practice! You will get to see how your photographer works behind the camera and she will see how you act in front of the camera. And after the session you can go grab a drink at a local patio and just hang out and get to know each other even more!
3. YOU WILL HAVE PHOTOS TO USE
Lots of photos! For a Guest Book for your wedding, or Save the Date cards, or your wedding website. Or just to fill those frames at home with more than a cell phone selfie.
4. HAIR AND MAKEUP TRIAL
Plan your hair and makeup trial for your wedding day and you will be able to see how it looks in professional photographs. That way if you are unhappy with something, you can decide change it before the wedding day. And besides - you are already looking great so why not photograph it!?
5. IT'S FUN! (Promise!)
We will laugh and play and run and be goofy - whatever you love doing, I am game to join along if it means getting to know you better! I will not make you pose in cheesy poses (unless you love them and that's your jam!)
